Lara Nowland is a talented freelance florist based in the city of Melbourne. It wasn’t until I followed lady Nowland to the morning flower markets and continued to observe her perfectionism throughout the day, did I realise how much work and patience goes into this art. Her attention to detail is almost as though she is having a conversation with every leaf, petal and branch she touches, before carefully arranging them into a masterpiece.
For this shoot we focused on some of the types of arrangements Lara creates for clients. The decision to shoot in her studio was made to highlight the details and colours of each arrangement, as well as following her minimalist branding that reveals hidden bursts of energy within this solitude.
For the detail geeks, the studio was located in Brunswick, Melbourne. The light source was from a large window that almost covered an entire wall. I used two Canon 5d mk ii’s with mostly the 70-200mm f2.8 L II and 50mm f1.2.
